Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Army Cadet Force?

As a cadet you will wear Army uniform, but you are not signing on as a soldier.  You are free to leave whenever you like.  After a short trial period you will be issued with a uniform on loan - which you will look after and return when you leave the ACF.  You will, however, be asked to buy your own boots - which is a small price for a future packed with action and adventure.

Will I enjoy it?

This is a question you can really only answer yourself.   Take a look at the activities on this web site.   If they interest you, then pay a visit to your local detachment.  If you like what you see, and are prepared to apply self-discipline, then you will certainly enjoy yourself.  As well as the activities arranged week by week, there are also weekend and annual camps.

What will I learn?

In short, a great deal…. The Army Proficiency Certificate is designed to develop your full potential.  You will also be encouraged to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme.
You can earn Records of Achievement Certificates and also qualify for BTEC awards.  If you are willing and able to accept ….responsibility you may be especially trained and promoted to cadet non-commissioned officer rank.

How much does it cost to join Durham Army Cadet Force?

The cost of joining Durham Army Cadet Force is £10.00. This covers the cost of your insurance whilst you are a member. It is none refundable.

Do I have to pay weekly subscriptions?

There are no weekly subscriptions.

Is there anything that I must provide myself?

You will have to buy a pair of boots. This is the only item that we do not supply. The Detachment Commander will be able to provide you with all the details of where to them at a reasonable price
